Eternal Majesty: A Musical Tribute to a Beloved Empress
April 6, 2025 at 7:30pm
Musica Transalpina is proud to present the first known American performance of Emperor Leopold’s Missa pro defunctis, which he composed for the death of the Empress Margaret Theresa in 1673. The marriage between the Infanta Margaret Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I. was one of the most important dynastic alliances in history, so her untimely death was of immense historical significance, ultimately leading to the extinction of the Spanish branch of the House of Habsburg. It was also personally devastating to the Emperor. We are recreating the music that accompanied this historic event, and now you get to hear it.

L.A. Master Chorale
April 11, 2025 at 7:30pm
There are sacred spaces in each one of us which music alone can unlock—that feeling when your soul is lifted up by sublime voices ascending to the heavens. In this concert, the Grammy® Award-winning L.A. Master Chorale, led by Kiki and David Gindler Artistic Director Grant Gershon, explores that divine spark through music that spans five centuries and four continents. Anchored by a breathtakingly gorgeous Palestrina mass (composed in the 16th century for the Sistine Chapel), through works of Anton Bruckner, Alice Parker, Moses Hogan and Hyo-Won Woo, this concert will transport you to a place of true serenity and transcendence. As a special highlight you will experience one of the classics of our time, Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium, sung by the ensemble for which it was written, in an intimate acoustical environment. Join us to rediscover the sacred spaces in our city and inside of you.
